What Tools are Needed?
You will need the following tools to complete the installation of your Medeco XT Safe Lock.
• Hacksaw
• Metal file
• #2 Phillips head screwdriver
• Tape measure or scale with fractional increments
Before you Begin
While your XT Safe Lock and Reader can be mounted in any of the 90 degree orientations, this installation guide assumes
that you will install the Reader vertically on the outside of a door with the lock assembly installed horizontally on the
inside of the door. The Reader can also be mounted horizontally using the pre-drilled holes on the mounting plate using
strategic positioning of the spindle insert (if required).
This document also assumes that the vault door on which the XT Safe Lock will be installed has pre-drilled common vault
lock pattern holes and that the spindle hole has a minimum diameter of 3/8”. Before you begin installing your XT Safe
Lock, you should familiarize yourself with these instructions and ensure that you have all the necessary parts and tools.
Installation Type
The XT Safe Lock is available in three different bolt configurations, dead bolt, spring bolt, and swing bolt. If you have a
dead bolt or spring bolt lock configuration, you will need to connect the Reader to the lock assembly using the spindle,
spindle insert and spindle adaptor. If you are using a swing bolt lock configuration, the spindle, spindle insert and spindle
adaptor are not needed for installation and are not included with your XT Lock.
