7.4.4 Connection of the spindle to the frequency inverter
The lines 1, 2 and 3 are to connect to the terminals U, V and W on the frequency inverter. The
protective earth connection must be connected to the PE terminal of the frequency. The wire
shield sided on the frequency inverter has to be placed with the largest possible area (by a
suitable cable clamp) on the grounded plate (usually the base plate of the switch cabinet) to
which the drive is mounted. If the shield is not placed it can cause potential differences, which
can lead to EMI problems or even electric shock! For EMC compliant installation and testing
the machine manufacturer bears the responsibility!
For the suppression of harmful transients output side line filter have to be used! Otherwise
there is a risk of damage to motor windings and/ or frequency inverter.
7.4.5 Power supply of the frequency inverter
First always connect the PE to the PE clamp of the frequency inverter, before connecting
external conductor! When using single-phase frequency inverters, connect L (brown) to clamp
R and N (blue) to clamp T of the frequency inverter. When using three-phase frequency inverters
connect L1 to clamp R, L2 to clamp S and L3 to clamp T of the drive.
To suppress feedbacks into the grid through the frequency inverter input sided line filter must
be used! This applies to both the EMC compliant, interference-free construction of the machine,
and in terms of the rules of the network operator for the permissible interference coupling.
7.4.6 Electrical connection of the cooling system
For water-cooled motor spindles the connection of the cooling system has to be set in a way
that a start-up of the motor spindle is only possible, if the cooling system is switched on.
The circuit technical realization has to be made in a way that the cooling system is always
switched on together with the voltage supply of the frequency inverter.
The cooling system must not be placed on an output clamp of the frequency inverter. The output
clamps may be used solely for the operation of the motor spindle.
