Checking the spark arrester (Country specific)
CAUTION:
• Do not start the engine if the spark arrester is damaged.
NOTE:
• Depending on the country, the spark arrester is not included.
The spark arrester prevents hot carbon from flying out of exhaust pipe. Check the
spark arrester regularly as following steps:
1. Remove the sprocket cover and the muffler cover.
2. Remove the screw which secures the spark arrester.
Clean the spark arrester with a wire brush if necessary.
If the spark arrester is damaged, replace it.
Cleaning the cylinder space
CAUTION:
• Always wear eye protection.
After long period of operation, dust may accumulate in cylinder space. It may cause
overheating of the engine. Clean the cylinder space occasionally.
Perform cleaning as follows:
1. Remove the sprocket cover, muffler cover, starter case and fan cover.
2. Clean the cylinder space and cylinder fins. Use a brush or air compressor if
necessary.
3. Return the muffler cover. Align the hook of the muffler cover with the housing, and
tighten them with bolts. And then return the sprocket cover, fan cover and starter
case.
Checking the hook
The hook wears out in course of time. Ask Makita authorized service center for
replacement when it wears out.
