CrossFire 8301 Redundant Stacker Unit
This section explains how to install a CrossFire 8301 Unit in the CrossFire 8300
Switch Stacker. For a detailed explanation of the CrossFire 8301 Unit, see the
section “CrossFire 8301 Unit Operation” later in this chapter.

CrossFire 8301 Unit Installation
A CrossFire 8301 Unit can be installed in either or both slots of CrossFire 8300.
If a unit fails, it can easily be replaced by the user. The following describes the
procedure for adding or replacing a CrossFire 8301 Unit.

Note: CrossFire 8301 Units are hot-swappable. A unit can be swapped while power
is on and while it is online. However, if possible, try to avoid swapping an online
unit during very heavy traffic. The switching time from an online unit to an offline
unit is very short, but during extremely heavy traffic it could cause an interruption
of data. When it is necessary to remove an online module, if possible, switch it
offline when there is little or no traffic.
Use the following steps for installing or replacing a CrossFire 8301 Unit. If you are
installing a module into an open slot proceed to step 5.
1. If the slot is covered with a blank plate, remove the screw located at the top
center and then remove the plate. (Reverse the procedure to install a cover
plate).
2. If removing a unit, switch it offline and turn off the unit. (See the note on this
page concerning power).
3. Remove the screw located at the top center on the front of the unit.
4. Using the handle on the front of the unit, pull the unit straight out from the
chassis.
