Appendix C AppLock
Introduction
LXE’s AppLock is designed to be run on LXE certified Windows CE and Pocket PC based
devices only. LXE installs the program as part of the factory-installation process.
A VX6 running AppLock becomes a dedicated, single application device. In other words, only the
application or feature specified in the AppLock configuration by the Administrator is available to
the VX6 user.
AppLock also contains a component which sets configuration parameters as specified by the
Administrator.
If the VX6 is reset to factory default values, the Administrator may need to reconfigure the
AppLock application.
Note: To reset a VX6 to factory default values, please refer to Chapter 4 “System
Configuration” section titled “COLDBOOT.EXE”.
Setup a New Device
LXE devices with the AppLock feature are shipped to boot in Administration mode with no
default password, thus when the device is first booted, the user has full access to the device and no
password prompt is displayed. After the administrator specifies an application to lock, a password
is assigned and the device is rebooted or the hotkey is pressed, the device switches to end-user
mode.
Briefly, the process to configure a new device is as follows:
1. Connect an external power source to the device.
2. Adjust screen display, audio volume and other parameters if desired. Install
accessories (e.g. handstrap, stylus).
3. Tap Settings | Control Panel | Administration icon.
4. Assign an application on the Control tab screen.
5. Assign a password on the Security tab screen.
6. Select a view level on the Status tab screen, if desired.
7. Tap
OK
8. Press the hotkey sequence to launch AppLock and lock the configured application.
9. The device is now in end-user mode.
Note: LXE has made the assumption, in this appendix, that the first user to power up a new
VX6 is the system administrator.
