OWNER’S/OPERATOR’S MANUAL 19.0
13. CVT SYSTEM
13-1
The CVT system rotates at high speeds, creating large amounts of force on
clutch components. However, as owner you have the following responsibilities
to make sure CVT system remains safe:
Do not modify any component of the CVT system. Doing so may reduce its
strength so that a failure may occur at high speeds. Any modification will cause
the system to be out of balance, creating vibration and additional loads on
components.
Routine maintenance is the responsibility of the owner. Always follow
recommended maintenance procedures. See you dealer
The CVT housing must be securely in place during operation.
Failure to comply with this warning can result in severe injury or death.
Low Range Use May Reduce CVT Operating Temperatures
The basic operation of the CVT system depends on engine speed and vehicle
torque requirements. As engine speed increases, the force exerted on the
movable drive sheave by the fly-weights also increases. This, in turn,
increases the amount of
―pinch‖ applied to the drive belt. Similarly, if the engine
speed decrease, the amount of centrifugal force decreases, reducing the
amount of belt
―pinch‖.
