Turn the system ON by pressing the power button on the laser console. Make sure the red
emergency stop button is in the release position, not pressed. The console system
microprocessor controller will then perform internal self-tests to verify that the machine is
functioning properly. There are two shutter modules equipped in the laser system. They
completely block the laser beam path, except when the system is in “READY” mode and the
footswitch is activated to ensure that the patient is protected against misfiring. The
microprocessor constantly monitors the electronic sensor’s position and the integrity of the
shutter. When the system boots up, it will check the shutter position to validate if the shutter
is engaged and functional. The position of the shutter will be continuously checked during all
operating modes.

4.
A few warning messages may be displayed on the LCD screen before the system goes into
“STANDBY” mode, such as:
•
“BRF Temperature Not Ready” (BRF stands for birefringent filter)
•
“LBO Temperature Not Ready” (LBO stands for lithium triborate)
•
“Red Temperature Not Ready”
•
“Cavity Temperate Not Ready”
•
“670 Temperature Not Ready”
The internal temperature takes less than 5 minutes to recalibrate itself. For more details,
please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this manual.
5.
Once the self-tests are completed, the system software is displayed as shown in Figure 7.
6.
When the laser is turned ON, it automatically goes into “STANDBY” mode to prevent any
accidental firing of the selected laser wavelength. In “STANDBY” mode, the footswitch is also
automatically disabled, and the shutter module is engaged to block the beam path.
7.
Prior to activating the “READY” button, it is recommended that all operating conditions, such
as patient positioning, power selection, pulses and interval durations, aiming beam and
illumination intensities, as well as spot size, are correctly set. This will prevent the likelihood
of accidental firing of the laser or unintentional laser delivery during the treatment session
preparation stage.
8.
When the “READY” button is pressed, the system goes into treat mode, which activates the
footswitch while disengaging the shutter module, allowing the aiming beam to pass through.
The system goes through self-test and after the shutter is verified, the laser diode will be
turned ON for the selected pulse duration. There is a closed loop control system to ensure a
stable output pulse. The laser beam will only be delivered into the fiber when the footswitch is
pressed. The footswitch must be released in order to fire the laser again after the first shot.
