If the lubricant is drained out of pumps which have already been operated
on the process, then it may have suffered contamina tion. You must deter-
mine the nature of the hazard and take the appropriate safety precautions
before draining the lubricant. Precautions can include the use of appropri-
ate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, respirator and/or
protective clothing, working under an exhaust hood, etc. Comply with all
safety regulations.
Label the lubricant containers according to the type of contamina tion.
Loosen the drain plug somewhat, hold drain through and bucket against the
pump. Unscrew the drain plug. Tools and bucket must be clean so as not to
further contaminate the lubricant.
Screw the drain plug with the sealing ring back in, wipe off any dripped lubri-
cant from the casing.
