• If you are replacing heat sink and fan assembly 1, go to step 6.

• If you are replacing heat sink and fan assembly 2, do the following:

a. Remove the optical drive. See “Replacing the optical drive” on page 27.

b. Pivot the optical drive bracket as shown in the following illustration and then remove it from

the chassis. Go to step 6.

6. Disconnect the heat sink and fan assembly cable from the system board. Note the cable location.

7. Follow this sequence to remove the four screws that secure the heat sink and fan assembly to the

system board:

a. Partially remove screw

Note:

Carefully remove the four screws from the system board to avoid any possible damage to the
