Configuring Your px6-300d Network Storage to Use
Samba Domain Mode
If you have an existing Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) user organization, you can join your
px6-300d to a LDAP server by first joining it as a client in Samba Domain mode, which uses an LDAP
database. Once your px6-300d joins a Samba domain, all LDAP users and groups can access your px6-
300d through Samba.
When you configure Samba Domain Mode, you
enable security
on your px6-300d.
1. To configure Samba Domain mode, manually add the px6-300d to your DNS server. Set the px6-
300d DNS setting to point to your DNS server. On the Network page, uncheck Automatically
configure all network settings, type the IP address of your DNS Server in the text box, and click
Apply to save your settings.
2. On the Device Identification page, select Samba Domain Mode.
3. Provide the following connectivity information:
●
Domain Name — the name of your Samba domain, for example, soholdap.com.
●
Domain Controller — the actual name or IP address of the Samba domain controller, for
example, ldap-server.sohoad.com or 10.14.50.12.
●
Administrator Username — the Samba Domain username with domain administrator
privilege.
●
Administrator Password — the Samba Domain password for the specified Samba Domain
username.
●
Users/Groups Refresh Interval — how often the px6-300d should refresh the list of available
users and groups from the Samba Domain Controller.
●
Local Network Encryption (SSL) — enforces encryption on your local network.
●
Remote Network Encryption (SSL) — enforces encryption outside your local network, such
as through the internet. Choices for both encryption types are Not required and Always
(encryption is always enforced). Always encrypting communication is safest, but can impact
performance.
4. Click Apply to save your settings.
