Replacing the thermal sensor
Attention:
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 “Read this first: Important safety information” on page 1 .
To replace the front audio and USB assembly, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 48.
3. Remove the front bezel. See “Replacing the front bezel” on page 48.
4. Remove the optical drive. See “Replacing the optical drive” on page 49.
5. Remove the storage drive. See “Replacing the storage drive” on page 51.
6. Remove the card reader. See “Replacing the card reader” on page 53.
7. Remove the front audio and USB assembly. See “Replacing the front audio and USB assembly” on
8. Remove the system fan assembly. See “Replacing the system fan assembly” on page 55.
9. Locate the thermal sensor. See “Computer components” on page 30.
10. Disconnect the thermal sensor cable from the system board. See “Parts on the system board” on
11. From inside the chassis, pivot the upper retaining clip

that secures the plastic holder of the thermal
sensor downward and then push the clip outward. Then disengage the plastic holder holding the
thermal sensor from the chassis.

12. Pull the entire thermal sensor out of the chassis.
