Replacing the card reader
Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 “Read this first: Important safety information” on page 1 .
Note: The card reader is only available on some models.
To replace the card reader, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 48.
3. Remove the front bezel. See “Replacing the front bezel” on page 48.
4. Remove the optical drive. See “Replacing the optical drive” on page 49.
5. Remove the storage drive. See “Replacing the storage drive” on page 51.
6. Locate the card reader. See “Computer components” on page 30.
7. Disconnect the card reader cable from the system board. See “Parts on the system board” on page 33.
8. Remove the screw that secures the card reader bracket and then remove the bracket from the chassis.
