Installation Clearances

Clearances to Combustibles

The Lennox Merit

Series vented fireplaces / vented fire-

place heaters are approved with zero clearance to com-

bustible materials on all sides (as detailed in table 2), with

the following exception: When the unit is installed with

one side flush with a wall, the wall on the other side of the

unit must not extend beyond the front edge of the unit. In

addition, when the unit is recessed, the side walls sur-

rounding the unit must not extend beyond the front edge

of the unit. See figure 2.

Mantel Clearances

Vertical installation clearances to combustible mantels

vary according to the depth of the mantel. Figure 3 details

these required clearances. Mantels constructed of non-

combustible materials may be installed at any height

above the appliance opening; however, do not allow any-

thing to hang below the eyebrow.

NOTE - Paint or lacquer used to finish the mantel must be

heat resistant in order to avoid discoloration.
