5 OPERATING THE HIBISCUS
®
• Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment
the PTO is engaged.
• Do not allow anyone to come within a 25 m radius from the
machine during work.
• Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab.
• The safety guards and the swath curtain are essential
protective components of the machine. So: operate the rake
only with these components duly fitted.
5.1
General directions
To enable turning on headlands, the rotors can be lifted (approx.
60 cm) free on three sides of the field.
To achieve this: actuate the single-action valves of the tractor.
- Lift the rotors up to the headland position.
- Engage the PTO at the lowest possible engine r.p.m..
- Increase the motor speed.
- Drive forward.
Never drive the machine through the crop while the rotors are on
the ground without rotating. This may cause damage to the tines
and tine arms.
- Lower the machine into the crop.
- Ensure the floating postition of the hydraulic valve; the rams have
to telescope smoothly throughout the operation.
5.2
Forward speed and PTO speed
Select a forward speed and PTO output (450-500 r.p.m., max.
540 r.p.m.) which ensures a good and clean swath.
If the rotor speed is too high there is the risk of crop not being
released soon enough by the tines so that lumps of material are
scattered behind the machine. If so, reduce the PTO speed.
Lower the forward speed when a clutch is engaged as a result of
overload.
