The Leica Apo-Elmar-S 180mm f/3.5 is supplied with a lens hood (1) optimally adapted for
the optical path. Thanks to its symmetrical bayonet, it can be fitted quickly and easily and
also in reverse for space-saving storage.
In both cases, when the lens cap is removed it is initially attached by exactly aligning one
of the index points on the lens hood (1a) with the index point on the front mount of the lens
(2b). The lens hood is then turned clockwise by around 30° until you hear and see it click into
place.
When the camera is being carried ready to shoot and during actual use, the lens hood should
always remain attached. It provides effective protection against contrast-reduc ing stray light
and also against damage and soiling of the front lens, e.g. from accidental fingerprints.
