11. Plan your route to avoid heavy traffic.

12. Be sure to slow down when traveling over rough or 

hilly terrain.

Placing Bales

1.

Stop in front of desired location.

2. Slowly raise or lower bale to the required height while 

keeping spear points tilted up 5 to 10 degrees from 
horizontal.

3. Move forward slowly until bale is square and straight 

above the location where it is to be placed.

4. Rotate spears to level and lower bale down onto its 

final resting spot.

5. Before backing, check all sides for pedestrians or 

other traffic.

6. Once the bale has settled, back up slowly while 

keeping the spears level.

7.

Make sure spears clear the bale before turning or 
changing height of spears.

8. Lower spears down to transport height before 

moving again.

Unhook Bale Spear

WARNING

!

To avoid serious injury or death:  
Park Bale Spear with spears pointing down or with spears 

against a building or other suitable stable object.

1.

Park tractor/skid steer with unit on a flat level solid 
surface and lower Bale Spear onto the surface.

2. Place transmission in park, set park brake, shut 

power equipment off, and remove switch key.

IMPORTANT: 

Do not unhook loader from tractor with 

Bale Spear attached. Unhook Bale Spear and 
reattach loader bucket before unhooking loader from 
tractor.

Euro Hitch

Refer to Figure 3-1:

a. If required, manually move locking handle until 

locking pins release. If Euro hitch does not have a 
locking handle, locking pins should auto-release 
during Step d below.

b. Return to tractor

 

and raise Bale Spear up 10". 

c. Tilt front of spear points down 5 to 10 degrees 

below horizontal and lower Bale Spear until 
spearpoints, bale spikes, or frame is/are touching 
the ground.

d. Slowly lower hitch plate until the top hooks have 

separated from the Euro style hitch.

e. Carefully back tractor slowly away from the Bale 

Spear

 

making sure it does not interfere with the 

Bale Spear hitch plate. 

f. If spike extensions are included, continue with 

instructions under 

“Unhook Bale Spear With 

Spike Extensions” 

on page 17.

Skid Steer/Loader Hitch

Refer to Figure 3-2:

a. Pull lock handles to disengage pins from bottom 

slots in hitch plate.

b. Return to tractor/skid steer

 

and raise Bale Spear 

up 10". 

c. Tilt front of spear points down 5-10 degrees below 

horizontal and lower Bale Spear until spearpoints, 
bale spikes, or frame is/are touching the ground.

d. Slowly lower Bale Spear until the top angle bar and 

skid steer/loader hitch hitch have separated.

e. Carefully back tractor/skid steer slowly away from 

the Bale Spear while making sure the hitch does 
not interfere with the Bale Spear hitch frame. 

f. If spike extensions are included, continue with 

instructions under 

“Unhook Bale Spear With 

Spike Extensions” 

on page 17.
