The specified needle size refers to the point at
which it begins to taper.
Type of taper and length
The information relates to the length of the pointed
part of the needle and to how steep the angle in
the taper is. The taper shape determines the size
of the skin opening and thus how much pigment
ink can be applied under the skin in one go.
A long taper carries less pigment than a short
taper. Although a long-cut taper carries fewer
pigments, it causes fewer injuries to the skin, but
may feel sharp. The extremely thin tip creates a
smaller hole in the skin.
A short taper can carry more pigment ink than a
medium or long taper. Although a short-cut needle
dispenses more pigments, the needle may cause
more damage to the skin, as the needle leaves a
larger hole in the skin.
