1. Shut off the gas supply leading to the heater.
2. Remove the thermocouple by turning the
thermocouple retaining nut counter-clockwise until
nut is at the end of the thermocouple body. Slide the
thermocouple to large side of keyhole slot. Pull out
the thermocouple. See Fig. 16.
3. Loosen the thermocouple attachment nut at the gas
control valve.
4. Loosen the retaining clip screw located on injector
body that secures the thermalfuse on the thermo-
couple. See Fig. 17.
5. Remove the thermocouple from the heater assembly.
6. Slide the thermalfuse on the replacement thermo-
couple under the retaining clip. Tighten the retaining
clip screw.
7. On the thermocouple you will see two retaining nuts,
Nut “A” (upper) and Nut “B” (lower). Position nut “A” to
the back threads of the thermocouple body. Position
nut “B” so 5/16 in. of threads are exposed at lower
portion on thermocouple body. See Fig. 18. (This will
allow proper positioning of thermocouple tip when the
thermocouple is tightened into place.)
8. Insert the thermocouple into the keyhole slot on the
top of the heater. Angle the thermocouple tip to pass
it through the keyhole slot and into the thermocouple
location hole of the burner plate. Pull up on the
thermocouple lead so the lower nut “B” is tight against
the inside of the heater housing. Tighten nut “A”
against the housing to hold the thermocouple in place.

9. The installed finished position of the thermocouple is
1/2 - 9/16 inch from the top edge of thermocouple to
the heater housing. See Fig. 19.
10. Thread the nut on thermocouple lead into gas control
valve. Tighten finger tight and snug in with
appropriate wrench. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
Overtightening may destroy safety gas control valve or
thermocouple.
