xDSL Tests, Annex A / M , B and / or J (
xDSL Test
)
The xDSL test is a simple and fast functional test for a DSL connection in
accordance with Annex A / M, Annex B or Annex J. The test detects an active
and synchronisation-ready DSLAM on the opposite side. The xDSL Check
KE890/KE895 can be connected at almost any point in the telecommunica-
tions network (whether at the location of the DSLAM, at the building transfer
point, in the distributor or at a junction box). The connection is made via
banana plugs, crocodile clips, RJ11 or RJ45 plugs.
The test is started by briefly pressing the
xDSL Test
button, with the
xDSL Test
LED lighting up alternately in red-green-yellow. The color change is main-
tained during the entire test. The transmission level is approx. -5 dBm.
The KE890/895 checks whether a DSLAM is present at the far end and to
which annex request it answers: Annex A / M (DSL via POTS), Annex B (DSL
via ISDN) or Annex J (All-IP). The result depends on the characteristics and
configuration of the DSLAM, Annex A and Annex B can be supported on the
same port, which is displayed by KE890/KE895.
If the result is positive, the test is terminated and a positive DSL availability
tone sounds. At the same time, the result is indicated by a coloured light on
the
xDSL Test
LED:

Result
Green
Annex A / M DSLAM detected, synchronisation possible
Red
Annex B DSLAM detected, synchronisation possible
Yellow

Green / Red blinking Annex A / B DSLAM detected, synchronisation possible
Off
No DSLAM detected or response signal <-40 dBm
If after the tests no clear signal is received from the DSLAM or the response
signal is below -40 dBm, a negative confirmation tone sounds (3x short tone),
the
xDSL Test
LED is switched off and the test is terminated. After approx.
10 seconds the device switches off completely. This switch-off cycle can be
aborted by switching to another test function or restarting the xDSL test.
