Board Description
The PCI-960 is a multifunctional full-size PICMG 1.3 Slot-CPU, designed for use in highly integrated platforms for a wide
range of application.
Depending on the ordered configuration, the board can be equipped with an “Intel® Core™ Duo/Solo” or an ”Intel® Core
2 Duo” processor. Adopting the Intel® 945GM in combination with Intel® ICH7R chipset the board provides a PSB
(Processor Side Bus) of 667 MHz and a 32 bit @ 33MHz PCI-Bus.
This generic processing engine board is targeted at a broad range of applications requiring PCI-, PCIe x1- , PCIe x16-
Bus support with low power while offering high performance processing, and with a good graphic solutions in a full-size
environment.
The implemented Intel® 945GM chipset provides up to 2x 2GB DDR2 SDRAM (Double DATA Rate, second generation)
memory.
The Intel® 945GM includes the “Intel® Gen 3.5 Integrated Graphics Engine“, that offers 2D and 3D graphic acceleration
and supports analog (VGA).
One PCIe x16 for external PCI Express-based graphics card (routed to the PICMG1.3 edge connector). LVDS and TV-
out are also supported by the integrated graphics.
The used Intel® ICH7R supports one onboard IDE channel (IDE 0) [up to two IDE-devices (1x “Master”, 1x “Slave”)] and
four SATA II channels. Each of the four SATA ports (two of them on-board and two routed to the PICMG 1.3 edge
connector) supports one storage device such as: hard disk, DVD, CD-ROM, etc. The SATA connectors feature the
clamp and latch design.
The ICH7R provides support for Intel® Matrix Storage Technology providing integrated RAID functionality (RAID 0, 1, 5
and 10). Several options for RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) configuration are available in order to meet
the needs of the end user.
The CompactFlash is shared with the IDE channel.
The supported USB 2.0 ports, serial ports and intrusion alarm connector (Intruder) offer more flexibility for the
configuration of your system. The ALC655 is an AC’97 compatible Audio Codec and supports audio from ICH7R chipset
providing analog Line-in/out, Mic-In, SPDIF and CD-In on-board connectors.
Other function consists of two Realtek RTL8111B Gigabit Ethernet Controllers for the 10/100/1000 Base-TX Gigabit
Ethernet LAN ports. Each Gigabit Ethernet Controller is connected to a dedicated PCI Express x1 interface of the ICH7R
chipset.
A third Gigabit Ethernet interface is supported (routed to the PICMG 1.3 edge connector) via PCI Bus and one Realtek
RTL8110S Ethernet controller.
A 32 bit MiniPCI expansion slot is available for feature extension such as wireless LAN, DES, modem or capture card.
The PCI-960 always requires a backplane for powering.
