the setting effective.
Auto is the automatic measurement mode of the OTDR. If this option is
selected, the OTDR will select an appropriate measurement range for the
optical fiber under test in an intelligent manner, and automatically select
an appropriate pulse width for measurement. The entire measurement process
requires no participation of users.
The default value of Distance range is Auto.
Setting the Pulse Width
Selection of a pulse width affects the dynamic range and resolution of the test trace.
If the narrow pulse width test is selected, a higher distance resolution and a smaller
dead zone can be achieved, but the dynamic range decreases. In contrast, if the broad width
test is selected, a longer distance of optical fiber can be tested, but the distance
resolution is lower and the dead zone is larger. Therefore, users need to balance between
the dynamic range and the dead zone.
Different pulse width options are provided as reference, depending on the selected
distance range.
