Operating faults
Faults – Cause – Solution
Malfunction / error

Remedy
The Diesel engine knocks.
There is a fault in the combustion.

There is an error in the valve
clearance.
Adjust the valve clearance.
The injection nozzles are damaged
or carbonized.
Contact your nearest Kohler Co.

Bearing damages.
Contact your nearest Kohler Co.

The piston rings are worn or faulty,
the pistons are eroded.

Abnormal noises from the engine.
There are leaks in the intake and
exhaust gas lines that cause a
whistling noise.
Seal the leaks and replace the
gaskets if necessary.
The turbine or compressor wheel
rubs against the housing; foreign
bodies have penetrated the
compressor or turbine; bearings may
be jammed.

The lubricant pressure is too low.
The oil level in the oil sump is too
low.
Fill oil to prescribed mark.
The lubricant is too thin (oil diluted
by Diesel fuel).
Drain the oil and refill with the
specified oil.
The pressure sensor is faulty.
Check the oil pressure and replace
the damaged pressure transducer.

The pressure limiting valve does not
work properly or is dirty.

There is lubricant in the cooling
system.
