Disassembly
4. Remove the intake manifold and the intake
manifold gaskets. See Figure 8-48.

2. Remove the four hex
fl
ange screws securing
the intake manifold to the cylinder heads. Note
which screw location holds the wiring clamp. See
Figure 8-46.

3. Unclasp the wiring harness from the clip using a
screwdriver. See Figure 8-47.

5. Leave the wiring harness a
tt
ached to the
manifold.
Remove Spark Plugs
1. Remove the spark plug from each cylinder head.
See Figure 8-49.

Remove Cylinder Heads and Hydraulic
Lifters
NOTE: Cylinder heads are retained using either
hex
fl
ange screws or hex
fl
ange nuts and
washers on studs. Do not interchange or mix
components.
1. Remove the four hex
fl
ange screws or hex nuts
and washers securing each cylinder head. See
Figure 8-50. Discard the screws or nuts and
washers once removed. Do not reuse. Studs (if
present) should only be removed if damaged
or if cylinder reconditioning is necessary. Once
removed, they must be replaced.
