BEATERS, SHAFTS AND BEARINGS
CAUTION! BALE WAGON SHALL NOT BE IN
OPERATION FOR THESE CHECKS

3.1
Observe all beater shaft bearings.
Check for cracks in bearing housings. Replace if cracked.
Check carriage bolts holding hosing to beater posts. They must be tight.
Check set screws, either for looseness or missing.
Check for wear in housing or excessive bearing movement in housing. Replace if
housing is worn.
3.2
Observe beaters, beater shafts and floor shafts.
Beater integrity: check welds to shafts on both ends.
Check that all knives are in place and secured.
Replace all missing, sheared or stretched bolts.
Check that beater rotations are balanced and true.
3.3
Observe cutting and beater chamber, sides, ends and roof. Walls ends and roof should
be straight, not bulging in appearance.
CAUTION! BALE WAGON IS IN OPERATION
FOR THESE CHECKS.
3.4
Observe beaters. When running, check for bent shafts by observing for straightness
during rotation.
3.5
Observe tractor driveline and Bale Wagon driveline for vibration or bent shaft.
3.6
Observe pillow block bearings and shaft bearings for:
Excessive movement in housing.
Noise indicting flat spot on bearing rollers from overloading bearings.
3.7
Observe yoke and cross integrity and double chain linkage.
