SELECTING ASPECT RATIO & TV SYSTEM
The Vid eo Menu - Select ing Aspect Rat io & TV System
The Video Menu let s you select t he appropriat e screen type for your t elevision or monit or, and the TV
System standard for t he country in which you will be using the player.
TV Sh ape ( Aspect Rat io)
Select the appropriate screen type for your t elevision or monitor. If you have a
conventional
screen, choose
either 4: 3 PS
(Pan & Scan)
or 4:3 LB
(Lett erbox)
. If you have a wide-screen television or monit or, select
16:9. See the chart below for a more detailed explanation.
Procedure:
1.
Press t he SETUP button.
2.
Press t he
X
ARROW but ton t o highlight “Video”
3.
Press t he ENTER butt on to display t he VIDEO
sub-menu.
4.
Press t he ENTER button again to display the TV
Shape options.
5.
Highlight your choice using the ARROW buttons
and press ENTE R to select it.

4:3 Pan Scan
The entire screen will be filled with a pict ure. Since a widescreen picture cannot all f it on a
conventional 4:3 screen wit hout
letterboxing
, some portion of the lef t or right side (or a
combinat ion of both sides) of the original widescreen movie will be cut of f.
4:3 Lett erbox
Widescreen movie s will be played back as they were f ilmed wit h t he entire picture
displayed. Howe ver, there will be black bands at t he top and bottom of the screen. Note
that non-let terboxed movies will st ill fill the entire screen.
Note: Choosing Pan & Scan or Letterbox is a matter of personal taste. You may pref er a picture t hat f ills the
ent ire screen, even though some of t he original picture is missing. Or you may prefer to see a widescreen
movie exactly as the direct or int ended, even though t he black bands result in a smaller overall picture.

Select this ONLY if t he DVD-1 is connect ed t o a widescreen t elevision or monit or.

This unit is preset t o NTSC at t he fact ory.
Do not change this setting unless you will be using
the DVD-2 in a country t hat uses the PAL Syst em.
An incorrect setting will result in a very poor black &
whit e picture or no picture at all.

TV Mode, the t hird item shown on t he Video sub-menu, will only appear on t he DVD-2T. Please ref er to
