Reception Range/Footprint
The footprint is the reception area on the earth that a satellite covers with its transmission beam (spot), within which
satellite reception is possible. The transmission power is at its greatest in the centre of this spot – it becomes progres-
sively weaker moving outwards.
The satellites broadcast various channel packages in different footprints. Normally all program packages can be received
within the spots. While reception is possible in principle at the edge zones, the quality depends on various factors, such
as the diameter of the satellite antenna and the weather conditions.
Fig. G shows the spots of the most commonly used satellites for the antenna of the CAP 950.
The inner line of the footprint here shows the area covered by the digital signals from the ASTRA 19.2° East and the
outer line for the EUTELSAT/HOTBIRD 13° East.
