Troubleshooting
Use this chart to help you solve daily operational problems. If there is any problem you cannot solve, contact your JVC
service center.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The multi-room function is not set
correctly.
Speaker signal cables are not connected
properly.
The SPEAKERS 1 and SPEAKERS 2
buttons are not set correctly.
Incorrect source is selected for the Zone 1.
Muting is activated for the Zone 1 source.
Incorrect input mode (analog or digital) is
selected.
Connections are incorrect.
Speaker signal cables are not connected
properly.
Zone 1/2 setting for the speakers connected
to the FRONT 2/ZONE 2 SPEAKERS
terminals are not set correctly.
Amplifier connected to the ZONE 2
PREOUT is not turned on.
Incorrect source is selected for Zone 2.
Muting is activated for the Zone 2 source.
Connections are incorrect.
The speakers connected to the FRONT 2/
ZONE 2 SPEAKERS are preset for Zone 1
usage.
When the same source is selected both for
Zone 1 and Zone 2, the source in one zone
affects the source in the other zone.
Zone 1 and Zone 2 operations are done at
the same time.
The receiver is turned on with the Zone 1
and Zone 2 sounds deactivated.
The “SPEAKER 2” setting is set to “ZONE
2 SPK” (and activated) on the ZONE 2/
SPEAKER 2 submenu.
The “SPEAKER 2” setting is set to
“BI-AMP OUT” on the ZONE 2/
SPEAKER 2 submenu.
The “SURR BACK SP” setting is set to
“NONE.”
The speakers connected to the FRONT 2/
ZONE 2 SPEAKERS terminals are
activated.
Speakers are deactivated on the SPEAKER
SETTING submenu.
SOLUTION
• Press ZONE 1 ON/OFF for Zone 1
operations.
• Press ZONE 2 ON/OFF and ZONE 2
CONTROL for Zone 2 operations.
Check speaker wiring and reconnect if
necessary. (See pages 8 to 10.)
Press SPEAKERS 1 and SPEAKERS 2
correctly. (See page 25.)
Select the correct source for the Zone 1.
Press MUTING to cancel the mute.
(See page 26.)
Select the correct input mode (analog or
digital). (See page 25.)
Check connections.
For analog connections, see pages 11 to 15.
For digital connections, see pages 12 and 16.
Check speaker connection and reconnect if
necessary. (See page 19.)
Set the Zone 1/2 setting for the speakers
correctly to use them as the Zone 2 front
speakers. (See page 44.)
Turn on the amplifier.
Select the correct Zone 2 source.
Press MUTING to cancel the mute.
(See page 32.)
Make analog connections for Zone 2.
For analog connections, see pages 11 to 15.
Set them for Zone 2 usage. (See page 44.)
This is normal, not a malfunction of the unit.
Selecting different sources for Zone 1 and
Zone 2 will avoid these troubles.
If this happens, perform the same operation
again.
• Press ZONE 1 ON/OFF for Zone 1
operations.
• Press ZONE 2 ON/OFF for Zone 2
operations.
To use the 7.1-channel reproduction mode, set
the “SPEAKER 2” setting to “SPEAKER 2,”
then activate the surround back speaker(s).
To use the 7.1-channel reproduction mode, set
the “SPEAKER 2” setting to “SPEAKER 2,”
then activate the surround back speaker(s).
Select “LARGE” or “SMALL” for the
“SURR BACK SP.”
Deactivate the Zone 2 front speakers, then
activate the surround back speakers.
Activate all connected speakers correctly.
(See “How to use the speaker and signal
indicators” on page 24.)

PROBLEM
The buttons and controls on the front
panel do not work.
No sound from the speakers in Zone 1.
No sound from the front speakers in
Zone 2.
The ZONE 2 (SPEAKERS 2) button
does not work.
CD tracks are skipped, tape is rewound,
or radio station is changed
unintentionally.
The receiver does not work correctly as
you operate it.
“TURN ON ZONE1 OR ZONE2”
appears on the display.
“EXES7.1 OFF” appears on the display,
and 7.1-channel reproduction mode
cannot be used for Zone 1 sources.
“NO SURRBACK” appears on the
display when you have tried to use 7.1-
channel reproduction mode.
7.1-channel reproduction mode cannot
be used for Zone 1 sources.
Expected surround effect cannot be
obtained.
