Lifting the Machine

General

The chassis is equipped with 4 lifting points, 2 at the front and 2 at the rear. These points are also used as

tie down points.

The centre of gravity position is approximately 76mm forward of the slew centre, 1,320mm from the ground

and on the machine centre line. It will vary slightly according the position of the upper structure, machine

specification and condition (tyres, fuel level, options, attachment etc)

6. Disconnect the booster cables:

6.1. Disconnect the negative booster cable from the machine frame earth. Then disconnect if from the

booster supply.

6.2. Disconnect the positive booster cable from the positive (+) terminal on the battery. Then disconnect

it from the booster supply.

Retrieval

Notice: 

 Towing a machine too far or too fast can damage the transmission. Do not tow the machine further

than 1.6km (1mi). Use a trailer for greater distances. When towing do not travel faster than 10km/h (6mph).

Use a rigid draw-bar. If a towing chain must be used, then use two towing vehicles. One towing vehicle

should be coupled to the front of the disabled machine. The other towing vehicle should be coupled to the

rear of the disabled machine, to provide braking power. The towing vehicle(s) must have enough pulling

and braking power to move and stop the machine.

If the machine becomes disabled, the machine should be made safe, lifted onto a transporter and moved to

a location where is can be repaired.

Do not tow a machine unless there is no alternative. Remember that further damage might be caused to the

machine by towing it. If at all possible repair the machine where it stands.

The chassis is equipped with two pairs of retrieval points, one pair at the front and one pair at the rear. These

points are also used as lifting and tie down points. The maximum force allowable on any retrieval point is 150kN

in a longitudinal direction. Higher retrieval forces may damage the chassis.

In the event that towing the machine to a safe location is unavoidable use the procedure below. Failure to

adhere to the procedure will result in damage to the transmission.

1. If the engine and hydraulic systems are not damaged, prepare the machine for travel.

Refer to: Preparing for Travel (Page 52).

 

2. If the engine cannot be run, the boom/dipper must be hoisted into position and secured. The procedure for

doing this will depend on the condition of the machine and its hydraulic circuits. For this reason you should

contact your JCB dealer for help and advice before attempting this work.

3. Disengage the park brake.
4. Retrieve the machine. Make sure you understand what the towing driver will be doing. Obey his instructions

and all relevant regulations. Remember if the engine or hydraulics are inoperative, steering will require

much  greater  effort.  Also,  once  the  brake  accumulators  have  been  exhausted,  there  will  be  no  brake

pressure available.
