11Problem Solving
11.1 GENERAL________________________________________________________________
The problem solution chart lists basic problems that can occur during start and operation of the mower. For complete

Action
Engine will not
start.
1.
Spark plug wire is
disconnected.
1.
Connect the spark plug wire.
2.
The fuel cap breather hole
is plugged.
2.
Clean the fuel cap breather hole or replace the fuel cap.
3.
The air filter is dirty.
3.
Clean or replace the air filter.
4.
Air filter is soaked in
gasoline.
4.
Replace the air filter. Only tip the mower on the left side so
the air filter and carburetor is away from the ground.
5.
The spark plug gap is
incorrect.
5.
Check the spark plug and adjust the gap.
6.
The spark plug is pitted,
fouled or cracked
6.
Replace the spark plug
7.
The fuel tank is empty Fuel
stale or dirty.
7.
Drain and refill fuel tank with fresh gasoline.
8.
OPC System is not
functioning.
8.
Test, adjust, or repair OPC System.
9.
Throttle or choke lever not
in the CHOKE position

Move throttle or choke lever to CHOKE position.
Engine hard to
start or looses
power.

Fuel level low, fuel stale or
dirty.

The fuel cap breather hole

Clean the fuel cap breather hole or replace the fuel cap.

Deck housing plugged with
grass clippings. Impeller air
intake blocked.

Remove grass clippings or dirt from bottom of deck
housing and impeller air intake around engine base.
5.
Engine oil too low, too high
or dirty.
5.
Add or remove oil until the correct oil level is achieved.
Replace dirty engine oil.

Engine problem.

Engine runs
poorly.

Spark plug wire not full

Fully press the spark plug wire onto the spark plug.

The spark plug gap is
incorrect.

Check the spark plug and adjust the gap.

Replace the spark plug

Throttle or choke lever in
