Figure 66: Wear rings and bushing replacement
The wear rings and bushings (164, 164A, 129, 206, 125, 125B) are held in place by a press fit and three
tack welds or three setscrews.
1.
Remove the wear ring / bushing:
a) Grind out the tack weld or if applicable remove setscrews.
b) Press the wear ring / bushing out of the mating components bore.
2.
Install the wear ring / bushing:
a) Thoroughly clean the bushing fit in the mating components bore.
b) Chill the new wear ring / bushing using dry ice or other suitable chilling substance, and install
the wear ring / bushing into the fit of the mating component.
Be prepared to tap the wear ring / bushing in place with a hardwood block or soft-faced hammer.
WARNING:
Dry ice and other chilling substances can cause physical injury. Contact the supplier for infor-
mation and advice for proper handling precautions and procedures.
c)
Tack weld the wear ring / bushing in place at three equidistant places.
d) If using setscrews to secure the wear rings / bushings, locate, drill, and tap three new setscrew
holes equally spaced between the original holes in each new wear ring / bushing and wear
ring / bushing seat area. Install setscrews and upset threads.
3.
Confirm the bore diameter of the wear rings / bushings after installation.
4.
Check the wear-ring (164, 164A) and bushing (129, 206) runout and distortion by measuring the
bore at each tack weld / setscrew location with inside micrometers or vernier calipers. Machine any
distortion in excess of 0.08 mm | 0.003 in. prior to trimming the new impeller wear rings (142, 144,
206), if supplied.
CAUTION:
Excessive machining can damage ring fits and render parts unusable.
