1.0 INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of a
Side
Entry
s
ystem as part of your Safety at Heights
program. This product is an articulated arm
designed to mount to a variety of support
structures and facilitate entry into access ways
located in the side of various structures. Used
with a winch, the system allows for vertical
positioning within the space being accessed, as
well as rescue and retrieval in the event of an
emergency. Adding a Self-Retracting Lifeline
(SRL) with retrieval capability provides fall
protection as well as rescue capability.
This equipment must be selected and approved
by a Qualified Person, and must be used only
under the supervision of a Competent Person.
All users must have read or have had explained
to them and understood these instructions and
the manufacturer’s instructions supplied with
any accessories or other equipment being use
with this system.
1.1 CONFINED SPACE ENTRY / RETRIEVAL and
RESCUE
The Horizontal Entry Arm, base, and winch, may
be used as part of a system to facilitate access
to and egress from a confined space as well as
non-entry rescue in the event of an emergency.
When used with an approved

the requirements of OSHA 1910.146, and
ANSI/ASSE Z117.1 for use as a confined space
entry/retrieval and rescue device.
