MDIO (SMI)
A PHY management interface, MDIO is used to configure each PHY before
operation, and to monitor link status during operation.
The CN78XX consist of four MDIO
interfaces and supports both Clause 22 and 45.
The MDIO interfaces utilized as management interface to Ethernet PHYs that are
connected to the CN78XX.
In the TAHOE 8724, SMI 0 interfaces with CS4318 which drives the four 1/10 GE
ports, SMI 1 interfaces with VSC8221 which drives the management port.
SMI 2 and 3 go to the IO boards.
