Installing the blade appliance
To install the blade appliance, complete the following tasks.
1. Make sure that the expansion unit is installed (see “Installing the expansion
unit” for information on installing the expansion unit).

CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the blade server is connected to the power
source. Always replace the blade server cover before installing the blade
server.
2. Install the blade appliance into the BladeCenter unit (see “Installing the blade
appliance in a BladeCenter unit” on page 16).
3. Turn on the blade appliance (see “Turning on the blade appliance” on page
12).If you have just connected the power cords of the BladeCenter unit to
electrical outlets, you must wait until the power-on LED on the blade appliance
flashes slowly before you press the power-control button.

If this is the first time you are installing the blade appliance, you will need to
configure it (see Chapter 4, “Setting up the initial firmware configuration,” on
page 21).
Installing the expansion unit
Use these instructions to install the expansion unit.
The expansion unit is required for the IBM WebSphere DataPower Integration
Blade XI50B appliance to operate.
To install the expansion unit, complete the following steps.

1. Before you begin, read “Safety statements” on page vii and “Installation
guidelines” on page 13.
2. Orient the expansion unit as shown in the illustration.
3. Lower the expansion unit so that the slots at the rear slide down onto the cover
pins at the rear of the blade appliance.
