Installing
your
operating
system
without
using
ServerGuide
If
you
have
already
configured
the
server
hardware
and
you
are
not
using
the
ServerGuide
program
to
install
your
operating
system,
complete
the
following
steps
to
download
the
latest
operating-system
installation
instructions
from
the
IBM
Web
site:

Using
the
Boot
Menu
program
The
Boot
Menu
program
is
a
built
in,
menu-driven
configuration
utility
program
that
you
can
use
to
temporarily
redefine
the
first
startup
device
without
changing
settings
in
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program.
To
use
the
Boot
Menu
program,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
Restart
the
server.
2.
Press
F12.
3.
Select
the
startup
device.
The
next
time
the
server
is
started,
it
returns
to
the
startup
sequence
that
is
set
in
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program.
Enabling
the
Broadcom
NetXtreme
Gigabit
Ethernet
Boot
Agent
The
Broadcom
NetXtreme
Gigabit
Ethernet
Boot
Agent
is
part
of
the
BIOS.
You
can
use
it
to
configure
the
network
as
a
startable
device,
and
you
can
customize
where
the
network
Startup
optional
devices
occur
in
the
startup
sequence.
Enable
and
disable
the
Broadcom
NetXtreme
Gigabit
Ethernet
Boot
Agent
from
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program.
To
enable
the
Broadcom
NetXtreme
Gigabit
Ethernet
boot
agent,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
From
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
main
menu,
select
Startup
Option
and
press
Enter.
2.
Select
Planar
Ethernet
PXE/DHCP
and
use
the
Right
Arrow
(
→
)
key
to
set
it
to
Planar
Ethernet
.
3.
Under
the
Startup
Option
→
Startup
Sequence
Options
menu
choice,
set
the
network-planar
device
as
the
first
startup
device.
