IBM System Storage DS3000: Introduction and Implementation Guide
21.1 What is needed
To set this all up, we need the following hardware and software components:
IBM System x 3755 server.
Dual port PCI Express 4 Gbps FC HBA, P/N 39R6527 (QLE2462).
SAN switch (we will use 2005-B32).
DS3400 with enough free disk space for the logical drive.
The latest FC HBA driver for Linux kernel 2.6. The driver is available for download on the
IBM Systems support Web site.
A management workstation running the latest version of DS3000 Storage Manager.
The latest version RDAC for Linux (V9.01.B5.39 at the time of writing).
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 installation CDs.
Figure 21-1 shows our sample hardware setup.
Figure 21-1 Sample hardware setup
The figure shows two SAN switches, however for simplicity we will use just one in our
example. It will have to be zoned appropriately so that two separate I/O paths between the
server and the DS3400 are available. In real life scenarios, we recommend using two
separate switches for additional redundancy.
