Additional hints and tips
The following tips are available on the IBM support site for further problem solving.
Search on the tip number:
Description: This error message might appear on a Blue screen during the Windows NT
installation process after the system reboots.
The following network operating systems are affected:
•
Microsoft
®
Windows NT Server 4.0
•
Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition
The device driver for the integrated Broadcom Ethernet controller is affected.
Solution: Download and install the xSeries 440 BIOS Update, version 1.03 or later. You can
obtain the BIOS update at http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-42518.html/.
Workaround: Complete the following steps to install Windows NT, and then install the BIOS
update and Ethernet device drivers:
1.
When prompted for a network adapter during the Windows NT installation, choose Select
from List and then specify the MS Loopback Adapter.
2.
After you install Windows NT, install the xSeries 440 BIOS Update, version 1.03. You can
obtain the BIOS update at http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-42518.html/ .
3.
Install the device driver for the integrated Broadcom Ethernet controller.
4.
Install the device drivers for any additional PCI NIC adapters installed in the server.
