Local Console Manager Installation and User’s Guide
To attach an earlier-model appliance to the LCM2 appliance, complete the following steps:
1.
Mount the earlier-model appliance into the rack according to the instructions that are included
with that device.
2.
Either attach the keyboard, monitor, and mouse connectors of the CO cable to the local port on
the tiered appliance and attach one end of a Cat5 cable to the end of the CO cable, or attach one
end of a Cat5 cable directly to the ACI port of the tiered appliance.
3.
Connect the other end of the Cat5 cable to one of the ARI ports on the rear of the appliance.
4.
Turn off and turn on the target devices to the tiered appliance according to the instructions that
are included with that device.
5.
Turn off and turn on the tiered appliance to enable its local port to recognize the CO cable.
6.
Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all tiered appliances that you want to attach to the switching system.The
switching system will automatically merge the two appliances. All target devices that are
connected to the tiered appliance are included in the main appliance target device list in the
OSCAR interface. However, when an earlier-model appliance is connected to a KCO cable,
the list of appliances in the OSCAR interface will display both the primary appliance port
number, followed by a dash, and the secondary appliance port number. For example, the Port
column for a secondary earlier-model appliance might dispaly 01-02, where 01 is the primary
port and 02 is the secondary port.
Chaining target devices with CO cables
To chain together target devices using KCO cables, complete the following steps:
1.
Attach one end of the Cat5 cable to the RJ-45 connector on the KCO cable.
2.
Connect the other end of the Cat5 cable to an ARI port on the rear of the appliance.
3.
Attach the color-coded cable ends to the keyboard, monitor, and mouse ports on the first target
device that you are connecting to this appliance.
4.
Attach one end of the Cat5 cable to the second RJ-45 connector on the KCO cable for the first
target device.
5.
Attach the other end of this cable to the first RJ-45 connector of the KCO cable for the second
target device.
6.
Repeat steps 3 through 5 for all target devices that you chain together.
7.
When you reach the end of the chain, attach a terminator to the second RJ-45 connector on the
last KCO cable in the chain.
To chain together target devices using UCO cables, complete the following steps:
1.
Attach one end of the Cat5 cable to the RJ-45 connector on the UCO cable.
2.
Connect the other end of the Cat5 cable to an ARI port on the rear of the appliance.
3.
Attach the cable ends to the monitor and USB ports on the first target device that you are
connecting to this appliance.
