2.   When using the machine without grass bag the safety chu-

te must be completely closed in order to protect the ope-
rator and to discharge the removed thatch on the lawn.

If the chute is damaged or shows signs of wear, it must be
replaced by an original IBEA chute.

Description of rotor kits (Fig. 8)

Your Verticut machine can be equipped with either of the
above rotor kits.
Rotor kit

A

has fixed blades and, as a result, can cut into the

ground to a depth of several centimetres. This enables the
soil to absorb air, fertiliser and water and hinders the growth
of weeds.
Rotor kit

B

has mobile blades and works on the surface,

cutting away dead and rotted organic waste (thatch). These
blades cut through the long roots and hinder the horizontal
growth of weeds.

 MAINTENANCE

WARNING: Never service or repair the machine until the
blades and the engine have stopped and you have di-
sconnected the high tension wire from the spark plug.

Replacement of engine oil

Please proceed as follows :
1.   Place the machine on a fl at surface.
2.   Start the engine and let it run for about a minute. Warm oil

is more fl uid. Turn off  engine.

3.   Disconnect the high tension wire from the spark plug.
4.   Remove the grass bag.
5.   Drain the fuel tank in order to avoid possible spillage and

accidents.

6. Turn off  the oil fi ller cap and drain plug (fi g. 9).
7.  Drain engine oil thoroughly in a suitable container.
8.  Reinstall the drain plug and screw in securely.
9.  Fill the specifi ed engine oil to the upper lever mark.
10. Reinstall the oil fi ller cap.

NOTE:

Dispose of burnt oil in accordance to local regulations.

 Drainage of fuel tank

1.   Stop engine and disconnect the high tension wire from the

spark plug.

2.   Unscrew the fuel tank cap.
3.   Using a siphon, pump the petrol from the tank into a suita-

ble container.

 IMPORTANT  :
1. Always handle fuel with maximum care.
2. Refuel outdoors using a clean funnel to prevent spil-
ling. Wipe up any spilled petrol.
3. Refuel only after turning the engine off and when en-
gine is cool. Do not fill beyond 15 mm from top of tank as
fuel expands when hot.
4. When filling tank, keep far away from open flames and
sparks and DO NOT smoke !
5. Do not mix oil with gasoline. (See engine manual for
further informations on oil and fuel).

 Blades  inspection

The frequency of blade inspection depends on the working
conditions.
1.   Make sure that the engine is not running and the high ten-

sion wire is disconnected from spark plug.

2.   Drain petrol from fuel tank.
3.   Tip the machine on its right side and carefully examine the

blade edges.

4.   If the cutting edge of a blade reveals cracks or bluntness it

must be replaced.

 WARNING  :
A worn or cracked blade may easily break during use and
pieces break off, resulting in serious injury to yourself or
bystanders.

Servicing the spark plug
 Servicing the air filter

Please follow the instructions contained in the enclosed ma-
nual supplied with the engine.

Adjusting the cable which operates the blades
Adjusting/replacing the belt

Please consult your authorised IBEA dealer.

Storage for long periods (more than a month)

1.   Drain fuel from tank.

NOTE:

All petrol must be expended to prevent gum-like de-

posits from forming in the carburetor, fuel line and fuel tank.
Such deposits, if allowed to form, will cause starting problems
and poor engine performance.

2.   Start engine and let it run until it stops due to lack of fuel.
3.   Remove high tension wire from spark plug and clean sur-

rounding area so that dirt cannot penetrate cylinder when
spark plug is removed. Remove spark plug and pour a
spoonful of 2-cycle oil into the cylinder chamber. Pull recoil
starter handle slowly to distribute oil inside the cylinder.
Install spark plug and tighten it using the wrench provi-
ded. Leave the high tension wire disconnected from the
spark plug.

4.   Clean cylinder head cooler fi ns, external engine parts and

machine chassis.

5.   Check and tighten all screws, bolts and nuts. If any part is

damaged, repair or replace it.

6.   Clean air fi lter (see engine manual supplied).
7.   Touch up all chipped paint surfaces.
8.   Store the machine in a clean, dry place. The handles may

be folded to save space. Cover the machine to protect it
and keep it clean, ready for next season.

NOTE:

Before using the machine again, check that the hand-

les are well installed and all nuts and knobs are tightened.
