ASSEMBLY
The following sections describe final brake system adjustments
required before riding.
1. Align and tighten brake shoes:
If the top and bottom edges are not evenly aligned to rim then
first loosen the brake shoe nuts until brake shoes move freely.
Align the brake shoes top and bottom edges evenly to the rim as
shown. Then tighten bolts, but never over tighten.
2. Put the brake shoes the correct distance from the rim:
Correct position of each brake shoe is 1/16 inch away from the
rim. If brake shoe distance is off first try turning the rotor
adjusting barrels in or out to make the adjustment. NOTE: You
may need to loosen or tighten locknut’s before and after turning
adjusting barrels.
3. Adjust Cable:
If the brake shoes cannot be positioned to correct distance from
the rim hold both brake shoes against the rim and loosen the
cable anchor bolt. Position each brake shoe 1/16 inch away from
the rim. Pull brake cable tight getting rid of any excess slack. Be
careful not to pull brake arm out of center. Tighten anchor bolt
securely. Squeeze the brake lever to check brake action.
