Performing the test
Patient Briefi ng
The patient should always be briefed on what to expect during the test to avoid
unnecessary distress. This should describe how the cuffs will infl ate, and then
after a short delay the arm cuffs will both tighten, followed by tightening of the
ankle cuffs. After approximately three minutes all cuffs will defl ate and the test
will be complete.
They should be advised that the test can be stopped at any time if they fi nd the
test unbearable. This is done by pressing the centre key below the display.
The patient should also be asked to remain perfectly still during the test, and not
to talk or cough etc.
