Appendix A
HP D300 Digital Dispenser software basics
Global view
The global view of the plate contains all the fluids that will be dispensed into the plate whether or not
the fluids are selected for editing.
The well plate image on the main page of the software displays only the fluids selected for editing,
except during the dispense GO operation, when only the current fluid being dispensed is shown.
Plate Layout Wizard
The Plate Layout Wizard is a set of panes designed to assist the user with plate configurations.
Plate Layout Wizard is useful for plate designs which use the same set of concentrations for many
fluids or for complex plate designs such as targeted, extended dynamic range or two-fluid titrations.
Working with the software
Exiting windows and dialogs
: Clicking on the red X in the top-right corner of a window simply closes
the window; no modified settings are saved.
OK/Apply
: In the software, OK applies and saves your choices and closes the open window. Apply
applies and saves your choices but keeps the current window open. Clicking on the red X in the top-
right corner of a window simply closes the window and modified settings are not saved.
Right-click
: Right-click after selecting a well or wells in the well plate image to open the Edit Well
Plate menu. Use this menu to perform fluid-related tasks on the selected wells. Right-click
anywhere in the Fluids Table to open the Edit Fluids List menu.
Selecting wells
: To select wells for performing operations such as configuring dispense
concentrations or volumes, normalizing, or randomizing, click and drag in the well plate image.
Drawing a rectangle that includes any portion of a well selects it. If the desired wells are not
selected, click and drag again; the previous selection is discarded. Hold down the CONTROL key
while clicking on wells to add or remove wells from the previous selection. To select two or more
separate areas which each contain multiple wells, left click and drag to select wells in the first area,
then hold down the CONTROL key while the other noncontiguous areas are selected. For instance,
this is the way to reserve areas of the plate for controls or blanks while setting up titrations in other
regions of the well plate.
Shortcut keys
: Shortcut keys are available for many common commands and are shown next to
menu options.
Undo/Redo
: Click
Edit
and then
Undo
or
Redo
to undo or repeat actions after you perform them.
The HPDD software permits up to 20 undo/redo levels.
