Maintaining the CD-ROM Drive
Your CD-ROM drive is designed to give you years of trouble-free service. The drive should produce
consistent results with minimal errors.
Environmental limits
Operate the drive within the environmental limits listed on Table 2-1, “Specifications,” on page 2-5.
Preventive maintenance
The CD-ROM drive does not require scheduled cleaning or other preventive maintenance.
Always keep CD tray closed except when inserting or ejecting a CD. This prevents dust from entering
the CD-ROM drive.
If a CD has dirt or smears on its read area (the underside of the disk), disk access time will be degraded.
An indicator of this condition is when the Drive Status LED blinks slowly (at a rate of 3.2 seconds).
Keep CDs free of dirt or grease.
