System Performance Verification

Starting The Program

Helpful Hints

Listed below are some helpful hints to assist you with using the Performance
Verification software.

System Configuration Test

Not all fields may be applicable to your test system. Leave the appropriate
fields blank.

The power meter used to measure LO power does not need to be connected
to the HP-IB Bus.

If during the tracking portion of this test, the LO power from the test mixer is
out of its specified range, remove the test module cover and select a different
combination of attenuators on the LO output. All attenuators should remain
inside the test module housing.

CW Frequency

Accuracy Test

If you are using an HP 8360 series synthesizer as the LO source and the
timebase of the LO source, RF source, and receiver are not connected
together, make sure you have performed the procedure in Chapter 5,
“Synthesized LO Source Timebase Check and Adjustment”.

Maximum Leveled

Power Test

The maximum leveled power test takes approximately 15 minutes to run.
This procedure considers the RF source and (optional) amplifier a single
unit. Therefore, when the procedure refers to the “transmitter source” or
“source” it is referring to both units connected together. In this case, when
the procedure says to “connect the power meter to the output of the source”
you should actually connect the power meter to the output of the amplifier.

NOTE

RF to IF Conversion, IF Noise Measurements, Channel Crosstalk, and
Compression tests use similar IF connections on the rear panel of the
HP 85309A. On some tests the connections do not change, on other tests
they do change. Make sure that the cables are connected correctly for each
test.

IF Noise

Measurement Tests

Each test takes approximately 10 minutes to run.

Channel Crosstalk Tests

It is essential that all millimeter wave connections are properly made. Refer
to Appendix B. Physically separate the mixers by at least 1 meter (or as far
as possible).

Compression Tests

Each test takes approximately 5 minutes to run.
