Electric Fences shall be installed and
operated so that they
cause no electrical hazard to persons, animals or their sur-
roundings.
Safe application is provided if the following hints are respect-
ed:
Not as much Joules as possible but as much as necessary.
Short fences up to 10 km without weedload can be operated
with 0,2 to 0,5 Joule pulse energy, medium fences (approx 20
km) also with light weedload with max 2 or 3 Joules.
In cases where unsupervised children can be available (espe-
cially in and around residential areas) also at electrical animal
fences with alternating polarity – where the fence wires are al-
ternating connected with the fence and earth terminal - the low-
er output terminal – if available -should be used or low energy
energizers or low output terminals of the energizers (1 joule).
WARNING:
Do not touch the fence with the head, mouth,
neck or torso.
• Avoid any electric animal fence with alternating polar-
ity where persons can get between fence wires with
different polarity. If at all use energizers with lower
energy e.g with 1 Joule limitation - also with a non-
electrified earthed wire !
• Enable persons to pass through public pathways by means
of insulated gates, gatehandles and insulated styles. Do
not climb over, through or under a multi·wire electric fence.
Use a gate or a specially designed crossing point. At any
crossing at any crossway and along public pathways all
electrified wires must be identified by warning signs in a
distance of at least 100 m.
• Keep a distance of at least 2,5 m with the electric fence to
all metallic parts i.e. to waterpipes and troughs especially
if persons can be in the vicinity.
• If there is a danger of overflooding the energizer must be
turned off.
Pay attention to Annex BB1.
The energizer has a pulse interval of 1 to 2.0 seconds. If the
interval is less than 1 second the energizer is to be repaired,
if the interval is more than 2.0 seconds the fence is not longer
safe in function and must be repaired, too.
This device fulfils the requirements contained in EU Di-
rective 2014/30/EU “Electromagnetic compatibility”, 2011/65/
EU (RoHS) + 2012/19/EU (WEEE) and with the European
Safety Standard EN 60335-2-76 (Electric fence energizer)
the EC-directive 2001/95/EC (General product safety).
Help to avoid any misuse of the energizer by:
• Observing the printing
• Secure the energizer against unallowed access (e.g. an-
titheft or antichildren equipment) if the location make this
necessary
SAFETY HINTS ELECTRIC ANIMAL FENCE
General hints for the installation and operation
Special applications of
electric fences
in
zoos
and
deer
fences:
The mounting of such installations may only be car-
ried out by trained specialists, a mechanical barrier must be
provided which separates the electric fence from visitors.
Service:
If the connecting cable of this device is damaged,
the manufacturer, his after-sales service or a similarly quali-
fied person must replace it in order to avoid hazard. Services
and repairs only by authorized experts! Only by the manufac-
turer commanded replacement parts must be used.
PART 2:
PRINCIPLES AND LIMITATIONS OF ELECTRIC
FENCING FOR ANIMALS
An electric fence consists of an energizer and a connected
fence where the energizer feeds electric impulses into the
fence. The electric animal fence represents a “psychological
barrier” for the animals; it keeps animals inside or outside a
certain area ,it can also be used to train a certain behaviour
(e.g. cow trainer in the stable). The electric security fence is
used for security purposes that comprise an electric fence and
a physical barrier electrically isolated from the electric fence.
No electric or mechanical fence can guarantee a 100% ef-
fective solution in protecting or containing your animals. The
effectiveness of an electric fence may vary upon the unique
local conditions within which the fence is installed. A suitable
combination of products together with competent installation
will ensure the best results. On occasion a determined ani-
mal may overcome the most rigid of mechanical fences or the
most comprehensive electric fence system. For this reason
the seller gives no assurance that the fence system is 100%
safe against outbreak. A well installed electric fence can of-
fer a high level of security when compared to a mechanical
fence, as the psychological barrier an electric shock can rep-
resent will deter the animal from finding a way to circumnavi-
gate the fence. Electric fences will also offer far greater level
of flexibility.
ANNEX BB.1
REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRIC ANIMAL FENCES
Electric animal fences
and their ancillary equipment shall
be installed, operated and maintained in a manner that mini-
mises danger to persons, animals or their surroundings.
Electric animal fence constructions
that are likely to lead
to the entanglement of animals or persons shall be avoided.
An
electric animal fence
shall not be supplied from two
separate
energisers
or from independent
fence circuits
of
the same
energiser
.
CAUTION:
Touching electrified fences, especially with the
head, neck or upper body, should be avoided. Do not climb
over the fence, through the fence or under the fence. To pass
through the fence, use a gate or other crossing facility.
For any two separate
electric animal fences
, each supplied
from a separate
energiser
independently timed, the distance
between the wires of the two electric animal fences shall be at
least 2,5 m. If this gap is to be closed, this shall be effected by
means of electrically non conductive material or an isolated
metal barrier.
Barbed wire or razor wire shall not be electrified by an
en-
ergiser
.
A non-electrified fence incorporating barbed wire or razor wire
may be used to support one or more off-set electrified wires
