Exposed moving parts can
cause injury. Use extreme care
when installing the engine
cover. Do not operate the
outboard motor without the
engine cover.

STARTING THE ENGINE
Pull the emergency starter rope
lightly until resistance is felt, then
pull briskly.
If the engine fails to start refer to
Troubleshooting page
.
If it was necessary to use the
manual choke knob to start the
engine, slowly return it to its initial
position.
R2, R3 type: Slowly return the
control lever to the NEUTRAL
position where the engine does not
stall.
R1 type: Lower the fast idle lever
slowly to the lowest position
where the engine does not stall.
H type: Slowly return the throttle
grip to the SLOW position where
the engine does not stall.
Leave the flywheel cover off and
install the engine cover. Lock the
engine cover fixing levers. Attach
the emergency stop switch lanyard
securely to the operator’s wrist and
return to the closest boat landing.
Contact your closest authorized
Honda outboard motor dealer and
have the outboard motor and the
electrical system checked.
