Persons with diabetes or chronic kidney diseases are exceptions to the
classifications above as a blood pressure level of just 130/80 mmHg or higher is
generally regarded as hypertension.
The blood pressure monitor is equipped with a category indicator for
visualization of the presumed risk level of the user in accordance with the
standard above. Read more about this in the section ‘
Risk category indicator
’.
It is important to consult your doctor regularly. A doctor will be able to determine
the normal blood pressure area for each individual and to determine the exact
point at which each individual is considered part of a risk group.
It is recommended that you keep a record of your measurements in order to
keep track of developments in your blood pressure.
How to use the blood pressure monitor
This blood pressure monitor is equipped with ‘Smart Sense™’ technology. By
pressing a single button the cuff is automatically inflated to block the blood
pressure flow through the artery. Subsequently, the deflation process starts. The
‘Smart Sense™’ technology enables automatic inflation and deflation to be
adjusted exactly to fit each individual. Please be aware that any motion during
inflation or deflation will cause measurement errors. When the measurement is
complete the display will show the systolic pressure, the diastolic pressure, and
the heart rate.
Smart Sense™ is approved to provide clinically correct results. The device is
approved by and in accordance with the demands of MDD (Medical Device
Directive, European Norm EN-1060-3 &/or 1060-4) as well as the guidelines
from The British Hypertension Society (BHS) accreditation and the Food & Drug
Administration (FDA) AAMI/ANSI SP10.
Based on the measurements, the blood pressure monitor’s category indicator
will warn the user by means of a symbol if the user falls within a risk group.
Read more about this in the section ‘
Risk category indicator
’ and consult the
table on page 45.
The blood pressure monitor is also equipped with an identification function for
heart arrhythmia (heart rhythm disturbances) which will warn the user that his or
her heart has an unstable heartbeat. If the symbol
IHB
appears frequently (5
successive measurements or more) it is highly recommended that you consult a
doctor. Read more about this in the section ‘Establishing arrhythmia (heart
rhythm disturbances)’.
