5-20 System Operation
MEMORY TEST Menu
It may be necessary to use the diagnostic tests if instructed to do so by a member of our
technical support staff. The “MEMORY TEST” is a memory buffer test to test the RAM in the
laser system. This is very similar to the RAM test that your computer performs when it first gets
powered on. In the process of testing memory, all files in memory will be erased. Once the
“MEMORY TEST” is started it will continue to run until it is canceled. To start the test select
“YES (CLEARS MEMORY)”. To end the test, select “CANCEL”. This test will continuously
pass through the memory.. If you are going to run this test, start it and let it run for about 10
minutes. If it finds memory that is bad, it will show up as a number other than a “0” in the fails
column and the SIMM module will need to be replaced. Please contact technical support if
there is a problem with the memory.
PRINT TEST Menu
There is a built in test file in the menu system. To access this file, use the up and down arrow
buttons to position the cursor on the “PRINT TEST” menu item and press the “SELECT” button.
The display will get replaced with the text “001) MEMORY EMPTY”. After a few seconds a test
file name will pop up in the display. Place a piece of scrap material in the upper left hand
corner, we recommend anodized aluminum, focus on the material, turn on the exhaust
system, and press the “START” button. A test pattern will now engrave into the material that
can help diagnose if there are any laser or mechanical problems with the system.
MOTOR CONDITION Display
The last two lines of this display show the conditions of the stepper motors in the motion
system. If there is a problem there will be an error message displayed next to the troubled
motor. If the motor is completely disconnected, “NO MOTOR” will show in the display.
