Note: Audio and video streams are written in the MPEG2 format onto your
hard disk. The recording process performing a transfer rate of up to sever-
al Mbit/s requires fast, capacious disk drives. For example, recording a
one minute video stream at its typical data rate (4Mbit/s) requires 30
MBytes of free space, one hour of video will require approximately 1.8
GBytes.

n. Tips on recording TV shows on your PC
N
ote: video and audio streams are stored in MPEG-2 format on
your hard drive. You will need 1.8Gigabytes of hard disk space
for 1 hour of video. A recently de-fragmented hard drive is rec-
ommended for capturing longer sequences of video.
Recording performance may be improved by changing a Windows setting
called 'Read-ahead optimization' to 'None'. This setting can be found
under
Control Panel

. It is also rec-
ommended to close down any other applications before you start capturing.
If you are having problems recording TV shows, please consider these
recommendations to increase performance:
··
Capture audio/video data onto a hard drive of its own (or its own parti-
tion at least). A seperate hard disk drive improves recording perfor-
mance by keeping your computer programs on a different disk drive.
··
Increase the access time of your hard drive by de-fragmenting it prior to
capturing long sequences.
··
Close down any other applications before you start recording.
··
Terminate services operating in the background, such as screen savers,
virus detection software, etc.
··
Disable the Auto insert notification of your CD-ROM drive.
··
If necessary, reduce screen's pixel resolution, e. g. from 1024 x 768
down to 800 x600.
··
Turn off the printer.
··
Disable the network card (if installed).
