Section 20: Balancing the PT-19
An important part of preparing the aircraft for flight is properly
balancing the model. This is especially important when various
engines are mounted.
CAUTION: Do not inadvertently
neglect this step!
The recommended C.G. (Center of Gravity) location for the first
flights with the PT-19 is 4
13
/
16
" from the leading edge of the wing,
measured at the fuselage.
If necessary, add weight either to the tail or nose until the correct
balance is achieved. Stick-on weights are available at your local
hobby shop and work well for this purpose.
We have tested several PT-19 models using the following power
plants and have found the added weight to be approximately as
follows:
Webra 1.20
No additional weight needed
Saito 1.50
0–3 oz. to tail
Zenoah G-23
8–10 oz. to tail
Note:
The above weights are what we found on the models
we built. Due to various densities of balsa wood and
plywood and the amount of epoxy used in various
stages of assembly, the weights needed to balance
your model can vary from what we obtained.
