Setting signal delay
In a home entertainment system, surround loudspeakers are usually positioned
closer to the listener than the front loudspeakers. This is why Dolby Digital and
Dolby Pro Logic decoders are electronically delayed by a fraction of a second.
In this way, the time at which the sound reaches the listener is compensated for.
In order to set the correct delay time for your surround loudspeaker and the cen-
ter loudspeaker, you must determine the distance from your sitting position to
front loudspeaker (A) and to a surround loudspeaker (B).
Determining the delay time
Measure the distance from the front loudspeakers and the surround loudspea-
kers to the listener’s central position.
Subtract the distance to the surround loudspeakers from the distance to the front
loudspeakers and divide the result by 30. This gives you the necessary delay
time for the surround channel in milliseconds.
Example:
Distance to front loudspeakers (A)
180 cm

Distance to surround loudspeakers (B)
120 cm
